Sturgeon County residents, landowners, and business eligible for flood relief funding

Government of Alberta approves County’s request to access Disaster Recovery Program for flooding

Residents, landowners, and businesses who have been affected by flooding this year may now be eligible for financial support.

The Government of Alberta has announced that Sturgeon County’s application to the provincial Disaster Recovery Program has been approved.

“We all know the tremendous impact that heavy rainfall has had across Sturgeon County,” said Sturgeon County Mayor Alanna Hnatiw. “These funds will go a long way in supporting our residents, businesses, and landowners who have experienced losses.”

Earlier this year, based on the ongoing flooding, Sturgeon County applied to the Government of Alberta to access the Disaster Recovery Program (DPR). The program provides financial assistance to qualifying homeowners, residential tenants, agricultural operations, small businesses, and landlords for uninsurable loss and damage caused by emergencies and disasters. The goal of the DRP is help return essential property to its basic, pre-disaster functional condition.

Any resident, landowner, or businesses in Sturgeon County who has experienced uninsurable loss or damage from the 2020 flooding is eligible to apply.

Homeowners and residential tenants can fill out and submit an application through the Government of Alberta’s online portal. To complete an online application for homeowner and tenant assistance from the DRP, aMyAlberta Digital Identity (MADI) is required. MADI accounts can be created on the MyAlberta Digital ID website.

Small business, landlords, not-for-profit institutions, condo associations, cooperatives and farmers can download and fill out a PDF application form.

Applications to the DRP must be made before December 23, 2020.
